A Christmas tale or two…

For all three of you reading Autumn Lake, I’m sorry it’s become a deadcomic instead of a webcomic! I’ve moved on to other projects, but six years isn’t a bad run. Still want to do something with it, or at least the site, and that’s one of my resolutions for the New Year. I am, after all, still paying for hosting, so I oughtta make some sort of use out of it.

I have a few treats for you to start with, albeit a day or two late. I have a Christmas story, and some Bing Crosby from a 1944 episode of the Kraft Music Hall here for you to hopefully enjoy.

Here’s a reading I did of an old kids’ book I loved when I was in grade school. It’s called “Countdown to Christmas” by Bill Peet (copyright 1972). It’s out of print now, but I was finally able to track down a copy a few years ago, thankfully before the going price skyrocketed. Peet was one of the original Nine old Men who worked for Walt Disney, and worked on Snow White and Fantasia, among others. He also wrote and illustrated children’s books, and this is one of them.

And here’s a little something from the famous Kraft Music Hall, the 1944 Christmas episode where  Bing Crosby sings “Silent Night” and his holiday standard “Adeste Fidelis.” You also get to hear my favorite announcer and pitchman from radio, Ken Carpenter, suggesting Kraft cheese spreads to help with holiday entertaining. Bing wraps up with a message about the troops overseas, as timely then as it is now.

I hope your coming New Year is merry and bright for you and yours!
